What bald-faced hornets look like
Bald-faced hornets are black-and-white social wasps rather than true hornets. Workers are robust and can defend a nest aggressively when disturbed.
Where activity develops
Colonies build large grey paper nests in trees, shrubs, under eaves and on structures. Nests expand through summer and are most noticeable after leaves thin.
