Drain Flies in Ontario
Identify drain flies and locate the moist organic buildup that may be supporting indoor breeding.

What drain flies look like
Drain flies are tiny, fuzzy, moth-like flies that rest with broad wings over the body. They often remain near sinks, floor drains and other moist locations.
Where activity develops
Larvae develop in wet organic film. A nearby drain can be suspected, but leaks, equipment pans, sump areas and hidden wastewater sources should also be considered.
Signs worth documenting.

Prevention depends on correct identification and the conditions supporting activity. These steps are a practical starting point.
Identification before treatment
Similar-looking pests can require very different responses. Avoid applying a product until the pest, location and permitted label directions are clear.
