Millipedes in Ontario
Millipede identification and exterior moisture prevention for Ontario properties.

What millipedes look like
Millipedes have rounded segmented bodies and many short legs. They move slowly and commonly curl into a coil when disturbed.
Where activity develops
They live in damp organic material outdoors and may enter in numbers after heavy rain or when exterior conditions become too wet or dry.
Signs worth documenting.
Slow dark arthropods at ground level
Groups near basement doors
Activity after wet weather
Make the property less favourable.
Prevention depends on correct identification and the conditions supporting activity. These steps are a practical starting point.
Identification before treatment
Similar-looking pests can require very different responses. Avoid applying a product until the pest, location and permitted label directions are clear.
