Mosquitoes in Ontario
Mosquito identification and backyard breeding prevention for Belleville, Kingston and Eastern Ontario.

What mosquitoes look like
Adult mosquitoes are slender flies with long legs and a narrow proboscis. Only females of many species take blood meals; activity and appearance vary by species.
Where activity develops
Water held in containers, clogged gutters, toys, tarps, birdbaths and low areas can support immature stages. Some species use very small amounts of standing water.
Signs worth documenting.
Biting activity near shaded vegetation
Adults resting around doors or decks
Standing water that persists for several days
Make the property less favourable.
Prevention depends on correct identification and the conditions supporting activity. These steps are a practical starting point.
Identification before treatment
Similar-looking pests can require very different responses. Avoid applying a product until the pest, location and permitted label directions are clear.
