Pharaoh Ants in Ontario
Learn how to recognize tiny pharaoh ants and why uncoordinated spraying can spread colonies in buildings.

What pharaoh ants look like
Pharaoh ants are very small, yellow to light brown ants with a darker abdomen. Their size and colour can make them difficult to notice until trails become established.
Where activity develops
They favour warm interior spaces and may nest in wall voids, cabinets and connected building areas. Colonies can split when disturbed, making identification and a coordinated bait strategy important.
Signs worth documenting.

Prevention depends on correct identification and the conditions supporting activity. These steps are a practical starting point.
Identification before treatment
Similar-looking pests can require very different responses. Avoid applying a product until the pest, location and permitted label directions are clear.
